Japan Cup Revamps GT4 Classes

Silver class added, Pro-Am replaces Silver-Am

The SRO Japan Cup has expanded its GT4 offerings with the addition of the new Silver and Pro-Am classes for 2026.

In a revised class structure, Pro-Am will replace the previous Silver-Am category, while the Am class remains intact for next season. With Silver, Pro-Am, and Am classes, the class structure of Japan Cup GT4 will now resemble that of the GT4 European Series, GT4 America, and the British GT Championship.

Two FIA Silver-graded drivers will be able to compete together in the new Silver class. Similar to the sporting regulations in GT World Challenge Asia, these crews will be subject to performance adjustments to maintain a competitive balance with the new Pro-Am class.

In Pro-Am, a Bronze driver can be paired with either a Silver or Gold-graded driver. It will be the first time that Gold drivers can race in Japan Cup GT4.

The all-Bronze Am class remains unchanged.

While Japan Cup saw massive expansion in its GT3 category – headlined by the championship-winning Hitotsuyama with Cornes Racing Ferrari 296 GT3 of Akihiro Tsuzuki and Shintaro Kawabata – the GT4 class had just two cars participate in all four rounds in 2025, and no more than three in any round.

That’s something that SRO Motorsports Asia hopes to change when the 2026 Japan Cup season begins from 15–17 May at Sportsland Sugo.
