DSC’s 2025 Livery Of The Year

A throwback to '81!

Of all the awards DSC hands out each December, Livery of the Year is amongst the most subjective, but that hasn’t stopped us from wading into an area every fan has a slightly differing opinion on.

For the past two seasons, this category has been dominated by AO Racing’s ‘Rexy’, and although the green dinosaur is as popular as ever, 2025 offered plenty of new standout schemes, so we’ve elected to go in a different direction this time around.

At the 24 Hours of Le Mans, a pair of one-offs especially stood out.

AWA’s Canada-themed Corvette Z06 GT3.R was simple but brilliantly executed, whilst Toyota Gazoo Racing’s 1998-inspirted GT-One throwback on the #7 GR010 – Hybrid really worked.

Also on the Le Mans grid, in the hands of Manthey, was the Chip Hart Racing scheme from the opening, Rolex 24-based sequence of the F1 Movie. This scheme also made an appearance in the IMSA Sportscar Championship with Wright Motorsports.

Speaking of IMSA, Pfaff Motorsports’ switch to Lamborghini saw the Canadian team bring back its traditional Plaid colours, which worked extremely well on the Huracán GT3 Evo2. We look forward to seeing how the colours carry over to the new Temerario GT3 next year!

CrowdStrike Racing had a refreshed look on its ORECA 07 – Gibson, whilst its updated tricolore livery is one of the many things we will miss about the Lamborghini SC63 next year.

If we had an award for ‘Sound of the Year’, the Aston Martin Valkyrie would surely be the overwhelming favourite. The livery also held up its end of the bargain, with the car turning heads in both British Racing Green in Hypercar, and Heart of Racing blue in GTP.

And in Super GT, Team Impul brought back its bright ‘Sonic Blue’ scheme for its Nissan Z NISMO GT500, continuing the now 38-year long tradition of Impul fielding a blue Nissan despite the arrival of a new primary sponsor.

There can only be one winner, however, and for the third year in a row we’ve crowned a Porsche 911 GT3 R (992).

1981 Italiya-Kremer Throwback, Origine Motorsport

Porsche celebrated the return of the Suzuka 1000KM by running retro schemes on all three of its Pro class entries at September’s event, with the standout for us being Origine Motorsport’s Italiya-Kremer throwback.

The Chinese outfit adopted the white and pink colours of the 1981 Suzuka 1000KM winner, in which Bob Wollek and Henri Pescarolo had claimed an unlikely comeback victory aboard a Porsche 935 K3.

Not only is the car stunning in its own right, but in an era where throwback liveries have become increasingly common, it was refreshing to see a tribute to a scheme rarely reacknowledged on the global stage.
