Two-time GT4 Germany champion PROsport Racing has announced it will add Mercedes-AMG machinery to its line-up for 2026, as part of a significant overhaul.
The German outfit, a regular in Nürburgring Langstrecken-Serie and ADAC GT4 Germany competition, has purchased both GT3 and GT4-spec Mercedes-AMGs.
The race programme for its Mercedes-AMG GT3 EVO is unconfirmed, whilst its Mercedes-AMG GT4 Evos are set to take on both the Nordschleife and an unannounced sprint series next year. The GT4 will debut in select rounds of the GT Winter Series.
“The decision to switch to AMG wasn’t difficult for us and, in a way, makes perfect sense,” said Team Principal Chris Esser.
“Over the years, we’ve become very familiar with AMG engines through our work with Aston Martin, and the vehicle concepts are also very similar. We’re really looking forward to racing the AMG cars!”
The announcement marks a return to Mercedes-AMG for PROsport Racing, who won the 2018 24H GT Series title with a Mercedes-AMG GT3, following an impressive run of four A6-Am wins in the final five races of the season.
The team has also elected to retire its current Aston Martin Vantage GT4s, but its pair of Vantage AMR GT3 EVOs will race on into 2026, with a programme focused around the ‘Ring. Fielding a Vantage AMR GT3 Evo, PROsport Racing finished second in SP9 Pro/Am at this year’s 24H Nürburgring.
The team will also continue to run its self-developed Porsche Cayman Pro4 in the NLS next year.
“This is more of an emotional decision, as I’m very attached to the car, and I’m not the only one who associates the Pro4 with many of our team’s motorsport highlights,” Esser admitted.
The return to racing Mercedes-AMGs is not the only significant change for PROsport Racing in 2026, with Esser set to step down as Team Principal, whilst a new company structure will be put into place.
“As I have already announced several times, I will be handing over the team leadership to a younger generation and will only be available as an advisor in the future,” he commented.
“We will be able to announce the new team principal in the coming weeks. There will also be changes in the company structure, and this makes us very optimistic about the future.”
