Townsend Joins Fox Motorsport For Its British GT Return

James Townsend has joined Fox Motorsport’s British GT return for the upcoming 2026 campaign as an Aston Martin Racing GT4 customer team.

The Essex-based outfit has won multiple championships in single-make Ginetta GT racing, and last made a one-off British GT appearance at the 2023 ‘Donington Decider’.

Fox Motorsport has entered British GT races using Ginetta, Mercedes-AMG, and McLaren machinery, achieving one outright GT3 victory at Spa in 2022 with the latter.

Townsend’s latest BGT appearance was also a one-off outing in a Mahiki Racing Ginetta at the 2025 ‘Donington Decider’, which retired due to a driveshaft issue.

He said, “This is the biggest thing I’ve done in motorsport, so creating Townsend Racing powered by Fox Motorsport and reuniting with the team I’ve achieved most of my successes with was a no-brainer.

“This is part of a multi-year strategy to push forward with my own racing career and to create and strengthen a real relationship with one of the most iconic sports car manufacturers of all time, in Aston Martin.

“Who knows where this could lead in the future…”

He has achieved multiple class victories for Fox Motorsport in the Ginetta GT5 Challenge, Ginetta GT4 Supercup, and GT Cup championships, totalling 42 podium appearances, including one in the Porsche Carrera Cup GB series.

His success positions him to drive the team’s new Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT4 Evo in the GT4 Pro-Am category, with Townsend’s teammate to be confirmed at a later date.

Team principal Paul McNeilly led the team’s British GT debut at Silverstone in 2013 alongside Jamie Stanley, securing victory in the GT3B category.

McNeilly said: “It’s fantastic to be back in the British GT Championship, the series that really enabled us to promote our abilities and achievements at an elite level when we first entered more than a decade ago.

“To be able to reunite with James – one of our most successful drivers – to create Townsend Racing powered by Fox Motorsport – is equally thrilling.

“To become an Aston Martin Racing partner team represents another step forward for our team.

“It’s our target to establish ourselves as the benchmark Aston Martin GT4 team in the UK, and with the championship-winning experience we have in the team, we have every intention of doing just that.

“We can’t wait for Silverstone.”

Following GBR Stratton Motorsport and Full Send Racing, Fox Motorsport has become AMR’s third GT4 customer team for British GT’s 34th season.
