1993 Nürburging 24 Hours winner Konrad Motorsport will receive increased support from Lamborghini Squadra Corse in this year’s 54th edition of the event.
The Austrian squad, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary this season, will field the #7 Huracán GT3 EVO2 in May’s 24-hour race, with Lamborghini factory drivers Christian Engelhart and Maximilian Paul joining reigning Prototype Cup Germany champion Pavel Lefterov in the driver line-up.
In preparation, the team will contest multiple Nürburgring Langstrecken-Serie events, starting with this weekend’s NLS1, where Engelhart and Paul will pilot an EVO1-spec Huracán, which will be replaced by a Huracán GT3 EVO2 for future rounds.
Paul and Lefterov drove for Konrad last year, finishing third in SP9 Pro/Am, whilst Engelhart finished fifth overall with Abt Sportsline. The switch to Konrad is a homecoming of sorts for Engelhart, who last raced for the team in 2017, after spending seven seasons with them across Porsche Cup and GT3 competition.
“As a contract driver for Porsche and as a works driver for Lamborghini, I was able to develop further and clinch a total of 52 GT victories. Now I’m delighted to be returning to Franz [Konrad, Founder and Team Principal] on behalf of Lamborghini,” Engelhart said.
Paul commented: “Franz gave me a chance as a young driver. I won’t forget that. Since this year, I have been an official works driver for Lamborghini and am very happy to represent the Italian colours on the Nordschleife.”
Franz Konrad said: “I am very pleased that we are now working more closely with Lamborghini again. I’m really proud of our driver line-up. We’ve known each other for years and from my point of view we can make it into the top three. But everyone who knows me knows that in reality I always want to win.”
