Barwell Motorsport has announced the first details of its new GT3 Heritage programme, which the British squad will be running alongside its three-car British GT assault this season.
The team will compete in both GT3 Legends and SRO’s new GT3 Revival Series, with a pair of cars from the early 2010s.
Barwell will run its 2014 British GT title-winning BMW Z4 GT3 at the Circuit Paul Ricard and Le Mans Classic rounds of the GT3 Revival Series, and GT3 Legends’ Donington Park event. Peter Mousdale will drive the car at all three events, with Matt Topham and Liam Griffin confirmed as his co-drivers for Paul Ricard and Donington Park respectively.
The team has also acquired a Lamborghini Gallardo LP560 FL2, which originally ran with Rhino Team Leipert in ADAC GT Masters, for Barwell regulars Adam Balon and Phil Keen. The pair contested British GT together in 2020, and finished third in the drivers’ championship.
The Gallardo will join the Z4 GT3 at Paul Ricard, Donington Park and Le Mans, and will also contest the GT3 Revival Series round at Barcelona. Barwell is also exploring its options to compete at the GT3 Legends’ event at Silverstone.
Alongside the BMW and Lamborghini, Barwell is restoring an Audi R8 LMS Ultra GT3, which could compete later this season. The chassis, which is the penultimate R8 LMS Ultras to be built, has previously won the New Zealand GT3 Championship in the hands of Neil Foster and Jonny Ried.
“We’re delighted to get the ball rolling for our GT3 Heritage department and confirm the first set of events, and reveal some very exciting driver line-ups. A huge amount of work has gone into establishing the GT3 Heritage department and everybody is raring to get going,” said Barwell Motorsport Team Principal Mark Lemmer.
“The BMW Z4 is a car that we know inside-out, and one we’ve enjoyed huge success with. Across Peter, Matt and Liam we have three very experienced, very capable drivers we know well and will no doubt be out for class wins at every event they do.
“We’ve fully rebuilt and recommissioned the Lamborghini Gallardo since it arrived and it will be great to see that out running again in its original colours. Adam and Phil were just the perfect pairing for that car, having achieved so much with us in the Huracan, it will be nice to turn the clock back and go for some glory in the Gallardo. Plus, it’s great to continue our strong partnership with Lamborghini into this department too.
“We’re also working hard behind the scenes on the Audi project, which will essentially be a ground-up rebuild of one of the last R8 LMS Ultra chassis ever made. It’s very exciting and great to see the ex-championship-winning car taking shape that bit more every day in the workshop.
“With a few more events still to be confirmed, our GT3 Heritage schedule is likely to grow as the season goes on and we cannot wait to get started.”
Barwell Motorsport’s new Heritage GT3 division will make its racing debut in the GT3 Revival Series season opener at Circuit Paul Ricard, on 10th to 12th April 2026.
