2027 IMSA Calendar Released, Daytona Dates Pushed Back

Early release 'a testament to the stability of our events and our promoter relationships'

IMSA has released the calendar for the 2027 WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, which features no significant changes from 2026.

In another strong showing of stability, the WeatherTech SportsCar Championship will visit the same venues, in the same order, with the same classes and race lengths, as it will this year.

The 2027 season will, however, commence one week later than in 2026, with the Rolex 24 at Daytona moved back a week to the 28th to 31st January. The Roar Before The 24 will once again be held one week prior, from 22nd to 24th January.

The 75th 12 Hours of Sebring will be held from 17th to 20th March, before the first sprint rounds at Long Beach on 16th to 17th April, Laguna Seca on 30th April to 2nd May, and Detroit on 4th to 5th June.

The 6 Hours of Watkins Glen will take place from 24th to 27th June, before LMP2 again headlines at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park on 9th to 11th July.

Road America, which was made a Michelin Endurance Cup round for 2026, will retain that status in 2027, with a six-hour race from 29th July to 1st August, before sprint events at VIR from the 20th to 22nd August, and Indianapolis from 17th to 19th September, leading into the finale, the 10-hour Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta.

Other than Daytona, Petit Le Mans is the only event to have had a date change for 2027, with it being moved back one week to 6th to 9th October.

One key change for next season, however, is that IMSA is planning to offer expanded sanctioned testing before each Michelin Endurance Cup event. Further details about this will follow in due course, although IMSA has confirmed these dates would be exclusively for WeatherTech Championship teams.

On the subject of testing, it’s worth noting that annual post-season Sanctioned Test at Daytona will be held in December this year, after the 2025 edition was shifted to November.

“Announcing our schedule this early in the year, which has now become our tradition, is a testament to the stability of our events and our promoter relationships, and we are grateful to all of our promoter partners,” said IMSA CEO Ed Bennett.

“It also provides an opportunity for everybody involved – from stakeholders and participants to IMSA race fans – to adequately make their plans to attend well in advance. Nearly all of our events have seen year-over-year attendance increases in the past few years, so it is conceivable that our strategy of announcing our schedules in March is paying dividends.”

IMSA President John Doonan commented: “Each season presents an opportunity to build on IMSA’s incredible momentum, and the 2027 schedule represents the very best of our longstanding partnerships and world‑class venues. We appreciate the cooperation from our fellow sanctioning bodies as we all work together in good faith to minimise date conflicts and create the strongest possible calendar for teams, partners, and fans.

“The 2027 season is especially meaningful as we celebrate several historic milestones: the 75th running of the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring, the 70th anniversary of WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca, the 65th Rolex 24 At Daytona and the 30th running of Motul Petit Le Mans. These iconic events represent the heart and soul of sports car racing, and we look forward to honouring their legacies with our competitors and passionate fanbase next season.”

The 2027 Pilot Challenge schedule, which includes a return to Lime Rock Park, has also been released today. You can read all about that HERE.
