Porsche Penske Motorsport logged the fastest GTP lap around Sebring once again in Practice 2. Felipe Nasr’s session-topping lap in the #7 963 was a 1:47.043, 0.942 seconds faster than the benchmark lap from Laurens Vanthoor in the #6 during the previous session.
In second was the #60 Acura Meyer Shank Racing w/Curb Agajanian ARX-06 with a lap time from Tom Blomqvist, improving the top Acura’s time of the day by over two seconds, with a 1:47.302. Jack Aitken in the #31 Cadillac Whelen, finished in third position, beating out the #6 Porsche after running a late-session push lap.
The fourth-fastest was the #6 Porsche Penske Motorsport 963, with Kevin Estre with a lap set very early in the session.
The two Wayne Taylor Cadillacs, like the #6, ran qualifying simulations. As Practice 2 wound down, Filipe Albuquerque in the #10 went fifth fastest, followed by Louis Delétraz in the #40 who ended up sixth.
The AO Racing crew pulled off a massive achievement, fixing the #99 ‘Spike the Dragon’ LMP2 class ORECA in the gap between Practice 1 and 2 this afternoon after it sustained significant right-rear damage, damaging the suspension and bodywork. ‘Spike’ rolled out with the rest of the LMP2 field at the beginning of practice, just four hours after Practice 1 concluded.
Dane Cameron then rewarded the AO mechanics with the fastest time logged in the LMP2 class, a 1:50.639.
Reigning Sebring winner Tom Dillmann in the #43 Inter Europol Competition car was the next-fastest ORECA on track, ever so close to the #99, with just a 0.056 margin between them. Sebastian Alvarez was the third fastest in the Canadian #8 Tower Motorsports.
Practice 1 headliner, the #22 United Autosport USA 07, finished fourth with Paul Di Resta once again logging the car’s best lap.
The #77 AO Racing Porsche was once again the fastest in GTD Pro today, with Sebring rookie Harry King posting a time of 2:00.070. Dean MacDonald in the #59 RLL Team McLaren finished the session second fastest, followed by the #62 Risi Competizione Ferrari finishing third fastest.
Dudu Barrichello put in a 2:00.029 to best the entire GT field in the #27 Heart of Racing Aston Martin, a big improvement after finishing fifth fastest in the previous session. Fastest in Practice 1, but runner-up in the second session, was the #57 Winward Racing Mercedes, with Philip Ellis 0.535 seconds back.
Frederik Schandorff in the #70 Inception Racing Ferrari finished third fastest, just ahead of the #81 Dragonspeed Corvette piloted by Giacomo Altoè.
Night practice kicks off tonight at 19:45 local time.
