Reigning vice-champion Hugo Cook set the quickest lap time during the first British GT free practice session of the 2026 season at Silverstone.
He set the benchmark with a lap time of 1:57.908 in the #63 Barwell Motorsport Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO2, ahead of two of 2 Seas’ Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evos.
The session was briefly interrupted by a red flag after Cameron Campbell lost his #13 Rodin Motorsport Ferrari 296 GT3 Evo into the gravel trap at Becketts Corner, but was recovered swiftly by the marshals.
Mahiki Racing’s #69 McLaren 720S GT3 Evo spent much of the 60-minute session in the garage, having nursed a few minor car troubles in testing and practice so far, although the car shared by Steven Lake and Josh Rowledge did complete nine laps by the time of the checkered flag.
Unfortunately, for 2 Seas’ other #15 car, shared by Andrew Gilbert and Aaron Walker, the team tackled electrical issues that hampered their chances of gaining valuable mileage during this session.
The original chassis suffered fire damage in testing, leading 2 Seas to source another chassis, which they had delivered early Saturday morning.
Their team members sacrificed sleep to rebuild and prepare the second car, which had formerly belonged to Team Abba Racing, as they completed just the two shakedown laps.
Ben Green set the second fastest lap time in the #18 2 Seas Mercedes with a 1:58.032, whilst reigning champion Kiern Jewiss was third in the #1 after his 1:58.356 lap time.
Aston Martin factory driver Ross Gunn put the #7 Beechdean Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT3 Evo in fourth following his best effort of 1:58.375.
Jarrod Waberski put the #78 Barwell Lamborghini fastest in the GT3 Silver-Am category, after a 1:58.384 ahead of the next Silver-Am ranked Rodin Ferrari of Joshua Buchan in sixth (1:58.536).
Optimum Motorsport’s Ben Barnicoat put the #77 McLaren in seventh (1:58.611) ahead of the #67 McLaren, belonging to Orange Racing by JMH, with Marcus Clutton’s 1:58.617.
BMW factory ace and defending Silverstone 500 winner Dan Harper rounded out the top-10 in the GT3 field, following his fastest lap time of 1:58.657.
In the GT4 rankings, Silver-ranked Revie Lake was the fastest driver in the #84 Mahiki McLaren Artura GT4 after his 2:09.422 lap time, followed by the two Ginetta G56 GT4 Evos in the field.
Tore Verde GT’s #42 Ginetta driver Jack Mitchell (2:09.451) was top in the GT4 Pro-Am category, situating himself ahead of British GT debutants Innovation Racing and their Pro-Am entered #74 Ginetta after Hadley Simpson’s 2:09.599 lap time.
Tore Verde GT’s other car, the #8 Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS CS, was fourth fastest in the GT4 classification as Tom Bradshaw set a 2:09.645.
Reigning GT4 Silver champion Luca Hopkinson rounded out the top five with the #59 Optimum McLaren and his time of 2:09.832.
British GT’s season-opening race meeting continues with pre-qualifying at 12:15 BST.
