McLaren Junior Meakin Named 200th GT Open Race Winner

McLaren GT3 Junior driver Zac Meakin has been officially confirmed as the 200th different driver to win a race in the International GT Open.

His achievement came after winning Race 2 at the Portimão 2026 season-opening race meeting with Greystone GT and his McLaren factory driver teammate, Dean Macdonald.

“I was washing my car when I got a call and was told I’m the 200th driver to win a GT Open race,” said Meakin.

“I thought, ‘Wow, that’s pretty cool.”

Macdonald claimed pole position in his #33 McLaren 720S GT3 Evo on the morning of Sunday, 19 April, positioning him up front for the race start and after a stint under pressure, Meakin completed the job to the checkered flag.

It marks Meakin’s second win at Portimão this year, following his victory at the Portimão 6 Hours with teammates Louis Prette and Jayden Kelly, with Meakin also set to make his debut at the mighty 24 Hours of Spa in two months.

“The GT Open is a really good championship, very competitive and with close racing, I’m not sure people realise how tough it is”, the British-Ukrainian added.

“The mid-term objective is to become a factory driver.

“In the meantime, I’m completely focused on the GT Open, and we’ll do everything to be among those who’ll be fighting for the title.

“I’ll try to keep the number of race winners at 200”, he said jokingly. Following his 200th win, Meakin leads the championship standings with Macdonald, albeit by just one point on #71 Motopark Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo pairing Christian Mansell and Maximilian Götz.

And a further point behind are Alex Fontana and Pietro Armanni with the debuting team ZRS Motorsport and their #911 Porsche 911 GT3 R Evo.

The next GT Open race meeting is the Spa 500 km on May 16-17, where Meakin will have another opportunity to add another endurance race win to his growing list of accomplishments.
