Mustang Challenge North America qualifying at Watkins Glen has been cut short due to a red flag incident, leaving only select cars with times on the board. The starting grid will be determined based on championship points, meaning Cole Loftsgard in the #42 Round 3 Racing Ford Mustang Dark Horse R will start on pole as the championship leader after going quickest in the now-negated session results.
The session was cut short due to an incident between Nicholas Smither (#58 Nick Smither Racing) and Paolo Salvatore (#84 Torre Racing) in turn eight, at the heel of the ‘Boot’, which brought out a red flag five minutes into the short 15-minute session. This meant that only ten of the 18 cars set lap times during the brief green running. The incident would be reviewed post-session.
Behind polesitter Loftsgard, Devin Anderson in the #22 TechSport Racing Mustang will line up second overall, followed by Sandy Satullo and Will Lucas in the #34 and #7 Wheelhouse Motorsports Mustangs.
In Dark Horse Legends, Tom Tait in the #8 Wheelhouse Motorsports machine (pictured above) will start first in class as the class points leader, followed by Chris Clarke in the #9 Paley Motorsport with AAG Racing car.
Race 1 will get underway at 1:55 PM ET later today, with Race 2 starting at 8:00 AM tomorrow morning.
