Factory drivers Jonny Adam and Dean Macdonald have returned to the British GT Championship for this weekend’s Snetterton sprint meeting as late changes to the entry list.
McLaren factory driver Dean Macdonald will join Steven Lake in the #69 Orange Racing by JMH McLaren 720S GT3 Evo, promoting that car from a Silver-Am to a Pro-Am entry.
Even though it has been six years since Macdonald contested British GT with now-defending champions 2 Seas Motorsport, he has since continued to establish his name in McLaren machinery. He is a regular fixture in the International GT Open and GT World Challenge Europe.
Fellow Scotsman and established Aston Martin factory driver Jonny Adam is joining John Hartshorne in the #97 GBR Stratton Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT4 Evo, a team founded by Adam’s father-in-law, Graham Brunton, and now run by his son Craig.
Adam is a four-time British GT champion and became their most successful driver after his 20th career victory at Spa-Francorchamps last year during his full-season GT3 campaign with Blackthorn.
It will be his first GT4 class appearance in the championship and his first GT4 race start since winning the 24 Hours of Silverstone in 2015 with Beechdean co-drivers Andrew Howard, Ross Gunn, Jamie Chadwick and Harry Whale.
He has been present in this year’s British GT paddock supporting Ronan Pearson, whom he replaces, having been busy elsewhere with FIA WEC, GT World Challenge and GT Open racing commitments.
This weekend marks Adam’s 125th and 126th starts in British GT and joins another Aston Martin factory driver, Darren Turner, in the GT4 field, with whom they shared a Le Mans 24 Hours GTE-Pro class victory in 2017.
Qualifying is on Saturday 15 August at 15:30 local time, and the two 1-hour sprint races are set to take place this Sunday, 16 August, from 11:35 and 16:00.
