The collision in the closing minutes of the Lime Rock round of the ALMS between the Risi Competizione Ferrari 458 of Matteo Malucelli and the Alex Job Racing GTC class Porsche of Jeroen Bleekemolen inflicted major damage on both cars, and the drivers involved – particularly the Dutchman – can think themselves lucky to have walked away unscathed. However, the magnitude of the repairs required has led the Italian team to pull their car from the next round at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, aka Mosport.
“We don’t get the front casting until Friday in Houston,” said Risi race engineer Rick Mayer. “There’s a lot of welding to be done and then the front of the car needs to be reassembled and the engine and subframe back in the rear. We’ll miss the next round.”
But even though the Porsche took the full brunt of the impact, Alex Job believes the car will be taking part at the next race; “We are replacing the tub and building up a new car,” he confirmed to DSC. “The engine and transmission cases were also broken. Biggest hit I have ever had. We fully plan to be at Mosport.”
The Canadian round takes place from July 19th – 21st.
