Asian Le Mans Series: Inje, Qualifying Report

Just 8 cars were involved in the qualifying session for the opening round of the 2013 Asian Le Mans Series at South Korea’s new Inje Speedium after technical woes for the BBT Lamborghini, the team though hope to be able to join the race grid (from the back row) tomorrow.

The promised pair of one-make Lamborghini racers meanwhile appear to have fallen foul of insurance difficulties!

Ho-Pin Tung meanwhile secured pole position for OAK Racing in their #24 Morgan-Judd with a fastest lap of 1:25.162 – setting a new lap record for Inje Speedium at the same time.

KCMG’s Nissan engined Morgan was less than half a second behind the polesitter, 21 year old Irishman Gary Thompson set a fastest lap time of 1:25.608 in the #18 car on their final lap of Qualifying, giving the session a dramatic ending.

Taisan Ken Endless finished only fractionally ahead of the GTC polesetting team Craft Racing who had a fastest lap time of 1:32.178 set by factory man Stefan Mücke in their #007 Aston Martin Vantage GT3.

The Aston Martin just Craft pipped AF Corse’s Michele Rugolo’s 1:32.299 in their #77 Ferrari 458 GT3, just over one tenth of a second behind the V12 engined Vantage GT3.

AAI’s #91 and then #92 McLaren MP4-12C GT3’s finished only slightly behind AF Corse, and Taisan Ken Endless’ #26 Porsche 996 GT300 also showed improved form.

Meanwhile KCMG’s Akash Neil Nandy looks set to become the youngest ever driver in Le Mans racing tomorrow at just 16 years and 6 months.
