Hyundai are the latest in a long line of manufacturers to debut new (potential) road going machinery in the Nurburgring 24 Hours this year.
In recent years we’ve seen new models from brands including VW, Subaru and BMW/ Mini debut at the N24.
The Korean industry giant is using this weekend’s race to showcase, and assist the development of, tech for its future high-performance N sub-brand models.
Hyundai have entered a trio of cars for the race with the i30 and Veloster models we saw last year returning to the fray together with a new version of the i30 powered by a new 2-litre turbocharged petrol engine.
The second i30 is dubbed a ‘development car’ and features not only the new engine but also uprated transmission, suspension, and dampers, along with wheels, steering, wider bodywork components, plus of course the mandatory safety kit associated with the race. All in all some 40% of the car is new.
The entry comes as Hyundai move closer to launching a range of performance-targeted models under their new ’N’ sub-brand with plenty of mileage around the ‘Ring already achieved courtesy of their test facility at the track.
