ACO President, Pierre Fillon, and FIA WEC CEO, Gérard Neveu were at Indianapolis Motor Speedway (IMS) yesterday, invited to the celebratory 100th running of the Indianapolis 500.
“In three weeks over 260,000 fans will be gathered at Le Mans in France for the Le Mans 24 Hours, said Fillon, “and we really look forward to welcoming every one of them for what is likely to be an amazing spectacle on and off track.”
Gérard Neveu added, “Just like Le Mans, the Indy 500 is a huge event both in terms of its recognition throughout the world and as a sporting occasion for fans, and it’s always really interesting to see how it works.”
Over the weekend Fillon and Neveu met with Roger Penske and visited the Indianapolis headquarters of Chip Ganassi Racing (above).
They also met with Mark Miles, President and Chief Executive Officer of Hulman & Company which owns Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
Whilst IMS is known to be one of a number of locations in North America considered in the recent past for an FIA WEC Race it is understood not to be under immediate consideration to replace the current round at the Circuit of the Americas, though concerns continue about the apparent difficulties the Austin, Texas facility is having to attract a sizeable crowd to the event.
The 100th running of the Indy 500 saw a win for Alexander Rossi.
