Taylor, Father & Son
Corvette Racing’s Jordan Taylor, who loves his history and vintage cars, spoke to DSC about his dad, who raced at Le Mans more than a dozen times between 1987 and 2002. His best overall was a fourth place for Kremer in 1987, but took the LMP1 class win in 1998 with Doyle-Risi. (above)
“He always brags about pulling 230mph down Mulsanne in the Porsche 962. I’d love to do that, with no chicanes. I love old cars you see, and I have two old ones myself. I have a 1975 Corvette, which I bought after winning the championship in 2013. It’s my dream car – it breaks down a lot but it’s still my dream car.”
Off the back of that, he also spoke to DSC about the possibility of doing the Le Mans Classic at some point. “I’d love to,” he said. “I have plenty of cars I’d love to race in it, so I’ll try and make it happen.”
Classic Porsche for Dumas
Romain Dumas meanwhile, has confirmed that he’ll be at next month’s Le Mans Classic, driving a Freisinger Porsche.
Race Performance Plans
Race Performance team principal Michel Frey told DSC that plans are well under way for the team’s 2015/16 Asian Le Mans Series-winning Oreca Judd to return to the series for the coming season.
“That’s the most likely scenario, P2 rather than LMP3. I think the best path for growth for the Series is LMP3, when you take into account the stage of development that the Asian sportscar racing market.”
Beyond that though the team is currently looking at the options for a return to the ELMS in 2017, with a new LMP2 car to add to their current LMP3 Ligier.
“It’s a big investment to make. The old Oreca has served us very well, but the competition this year has taken a big step forward. For us to invest in a new car is a difficult choice, both to do it, and to decide which way to go!
Krohn Grounded
Tracy Krohn has not made it to Le Mans as yet. Ongoing poor weather has delayed his flight from Texas, where Tracy’s jet has been prevented from taking off.
IndyCar Boys Arrive
Ford Chip Ganassi pair Sebastian Bourdais and Scott Dixon have though both made it over from Texas (together with Mikhail Aleshin from SMP Racing). The trio was delayed in Texas with an extended rain delay (and eventual postponement until August) of the Indycar race at Texas Motor Speedway.
Barbosa’s Bonny Boots
Joao Barbosa is sporting some customised OMP race boots, decorated by his sons Rodrigo and Gil.
