Dallara Progressing Apace With 2017 LMP2 Coupe

An email responding positively to our story last week on progress with LMP2 for 2017 from Dallara gave the DSC Ed an opportunity to catch up with the Italian manufacturer in the Le Mans paddock yesterday morning.

Much more coming in the next few weeks but for now we can confirm that the car has been progressing smoothly through the homologation process and that Dallara is now well into the production stage for the car which, as we wrote, does indeed have customers on both sides of the Atlantic.

The one known (and built in) programme delay is the availability for testing of the new for 2017 competition WEC & ELMS ‘Spec’ Gibson V8.

One example of that engine will be available to each of the four chassis suppliers from 15 August with Dallara preparing to commence their track testing programme immediately after that point.

There is no information currently available on a test programme with the first US-bound example. The customer base though is known to focus on the GM-backed DPI programme for 2017, with the current Chevrolet V8 powerplant from the current DP now understood to be the chosen option. Action Express and Wayne Taylor Racing are more than likely the recipients of the first DPI versions of the new car.
