Bentley Team Absolute will enter two cars in the Pirelli World Challenge Championship once again, for the remaining two rounds of the 2016 season at Sonoma Raceway and Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. The #78 Bentley Continental GT3 will be driven by Andrew Kim in the GTA class.
Absolute has been down to one Continental GT3 in the PWC series since Andrew Palmer’s accident earlier this year at Lime Rock.
Kim is no stranger to Absolute Racing or Bentley; as he’s a regular with the team in the GT Asia series. The round at Sonoma though, will be Kim’s North American race debut and marks the first time a Korean driver has participated in a Pirelli World Challenge race.
Fong, who shares a Continental GT3 with Kim in GT Asia, is currently eighth in GT Drivers Championship and recently scored back-to-back runner-up finishes at the Utah Motorsports Campus. Fong, however, has never been to 12-turn, 2.385-mile Sonoma Raceway.
“I was at Mid-Ohio to see Adderly who is my teammate in GT Asia,” said Kim. “It made me really wanted to join PWC. It looks very tough and competitive. The tracks seem to have much less margin for mistakes. Normally, in Asia, we race on Formula 1 tracks, which are huge with lots of runoff. I am looking forward to driving at old school tracks in America!”
Kim will be classified in the GTA division for amateur drivers.
