Luca Stolz has qualified the #19 Grasser Racing Lamborghini on pole position for Sunday afternoon’s three-hour Blancpain GT Endurance Cup season finale at the Nurburgring. Also making the front row was Christopher Mies in the #28 WRT Audi, while Alessandro Pier Guidi qualified the #50 AF Corse Ferrari third.
The highest-placed championship contender is the #84 HTP Mercedes (above), which was qualified fourth by Maxi Buhk, while Jonny Adam claimed sixth overall and Pro-Am Cup pole position in the Oman Racing Aston Martin. Rino Mastronardi was the fastest Am Cup qualifier, in 25th overall at the wheel of the #51 Ferrari.
Qualifying was delayed and reduced to a single very busy 15-minute Q3 session after early-morning fog (above) forced Q1 and Q2 to be cancelled. A red flag then interrupted proceedings before anyone could complete a flying lap, due to #8 Bentley title contender Andy Soucek hitting the barriers at T1.
The impact was nowhere near as heavy as Steven Kane’s in the #7 on Saturday, with only superficial damage to the front meaning Soucek was able to recover the car to the pits under the red flag. He then rejoined a recorded a lap quick enough to qualify the car 12th for the race.
With just over 90 seconds of the session remaining, Olivier Beretta found the barriers at T1 in the #53 AF Corse Ferrari, bringing out the red flags once again and ending the session early.
Of the other two championship challengers, the points-leading #58 McLaren (qualified by Rob Bell) starts down in 21st, while the #99 BMW (qualified by Nick Catsburg) lines up 39th. The race starts at 2:45pm local time today.
