1989 Le Mans 24 Hours winning driver Stanley Dickens has joined SPV Racing as their team manager.
SPV Racing are currently entered in the Michelin Le Mans Cup with a single Ligier JS P3 LMP3 car, but are soon to take delivery of a second Ligier, with an LMP2 test programme due to start in the second half of 2018 with the possibility of some LMP2 race starts before the end of the year.
In addition SPV are involved in GT4 racing in Spain and are preparing to join the new FIA Electric GT Series (EGT) with a pair of Tesla Model S P100DLs.
Dickens’ sportscar racing career saw him win a European Championship, a Japanese Championship and, ultimately, the 1989 Le Mans 24 Hours with Sauber Mercedes (bottom).
In team management Dickens steered his SportsRacing Team Sweden to the FIA Sportscar Championship SR2 title in 2001 with Larry Oberto and 2017 WTCC Champion Thed Björk.
“I have had the opportunity now to work with the SPV-team at a number of tests in Spain and Portugal getting to know the mechanics, engineers and drivers. We are now building the team for a good start of the season,” Dickens said.
“We have for sure podium ambitions in the Michelin Le Mans Cup 2018 but the long term goal is to establish a platform for years to come. The ambitions is to compete in both the LMP2 and 3 categories 2019 but potentially we might do one or two LMP2 starts towards the end of the season. And yes for sure 24H of Le Mans is a target.”
Raul Garcia, SPV Racing CEO is delighted with the appointment of Dickens, and confirmed the team’s LMP3 and LMP2 plans going forward:
“We are very glad to have Stanley joining the team as the Manager of the LMP programme. His experience as a driver and team manager will be very valuable as we continue to expand.
“We will be running at least one Ligier LMP3 in the Michelin Le Mans Cup but it is likely that one more Ligier LMP3 will joining the team shortly. After the summer we are targeting to start with a LMP2 test programme.”
