Several changes to the FIA WEC regulations for 2014 have recently been confirmed.
LMP1 Privateer Drivers
An new FIA Endurance Trophy for Private LMP1 Team Drivers will be added to the trophy already announced for the LMP1 privateer teams.
Safety Car Procedure / Championship Points
If a race is suspended by the Race Director and cannot be resumed, no points will be awarded to the crews if the leader has completed less than two laps, half points will be awarded to the crews if the leader has completed more than two laps but less than 75% of the original race time.
New for 2014: After the lessons learned at the rain spoiled Fuji event last year, henceforth a minimum of two laps must have been completed by the leader outside of a Safety Car procedure for points to be awarded.
Tyres
LMP2 Category
The use of the tyres is limited to 3 sets of tyres maximum (an increase of one set on 2013) for the whole of the free practice sessions and for the warm-up if one is scheduled and to 4 sets of tyres for qualifying and the race (an increase of one set on 2013). Two additional tyres can be used at any time during the event.
For the LMGTE Pro and LMGTE Am categories:
The use of the tyres is limited to 4 sets of tyres (an increase of one set on 2013) + 2 additional tyres maximum for the whole of the free practice sessions and for the warm-up if one is scheduled.
Driver Crew Composition
For the LMGTE Am category only a crew of 2 or 3 drivers must include at least 1 Bronze and 1 Bronze or Silver driver. The 2013 regulation was “at MOST one Gold or Platinum driver”.
For two driver crews, the first driver must be bronze and the second driver can be either bronze or silver. For three driver crews the first driver must be bronze, the second driver must be bronze or silver and the third driver can be from any other category.
