SMP’s Pro Class Driver Crew Returns For 2019

Aleshin, Rigon and Molina set for second season

SMP Racing has retained the three drivers that competed with it last season in the Blancpain Endurance Cup Pro class for its 2019 campaign.

The Russian outfit’s #72 Ferrari 488 GT3 will, therefore, be driven throughout the year by Mikhail Aleshin, and Ferrari aces Miguel Molina and Davide Rigon once again in the Endurance Cup, entered into the Pro category.

Going into the season, the three drivers will be hoping for better fortune than in 2018, when they failed to feature in the title races, their only notable result a third-place finish in the season finale at Catalunya.

“I am glad to take part in the Blancpain GT Series again, which is always highly competitive,” Mikhail Aleshin said ahead of the season, which begins at Monza in two weeks time. This programme adds to his current FIA WEC LMP1 commitments with the team’s BR1 effort.

“I will represent SMP Racing, driving the Ferrari F488 of the Italian AF Corse team. Our teams have been successfully cooperating for a long time – together they have won many competitions in different classes. As the experience of last year showed, the speed of our car is high, the team is wonderful and ready to meet any challenges.

“My teammates Davide Rigon and Miguel Molina are professional drivers, we worked very well together in the previous season. I think that this year we have all the chances to put the puzzle together.”
