Having proven himself to be a more than capable driver behind the wheel of an Ecurie Ecosse BMW Z4 GT3 in the BES, BGT and latterly the ELMS, Ollie Millroy will soon be adding the Asian Le Mans Series to his CV after landing a deal to spearhead AAI Motorsport’s challenge – also in a BMW – in the 2014 season which begins in July.
“The deal came about quite quickly to be honest,” he said. “Returning to race in Asia is something I’ve been keen to do for a while and this is just the sort of challenge that appealed to me. With my experience of the BMW Z4 GT3 I’m sure I can play a major role in helping to develop AAI Motorsport’s Asian Le Mans Series programme this year.
“The idea is to grow with them and move forward together, especially as they have ambitions to race on an international level. With the ACO offering both the GTC class winners and runners-up a guaranteed Le Mans invitation it was an opportunity too good to pass up.
“I must thank my manager Rod Vickery for his help with putting the deal together, as well as AAI Motorsport for their faith in me. Together I’m sure we can enjoy a great season.”
Millroy’s previous experience in Asia came when he contested the 2008 Formula BMW Pacific series, which yield a win and two podiums from five races. Of the five circuits that make up this year’s AsLMS, he has raced at two, Sepang and Shanghai:
July 20: Inje Speedium (South Korea)
Aug 09: Fuji Speedway (Japan)
Oct 11: Shanghai Intl Circuit (China)
Oct 26: Zhuhai Intl Circuit (China)
Dec 07: Sepang Intl Circuit (Malaysia)
His first test with the team comes at Sepang in April, and although this will be Millroy’s main programme for 2014, he is hopeful of other outings during the year. “At the moment our plan is to contest the full Asian Le Mans Series, but we could add a couple of other events to the programme, including the GT race at Macau, which would be an amazing opportunity! Aside from that I’m still looking at a few possibilities in Europe, like contesting the 24 Hours of Spa, as well as continuing with my driver coaching commitments.”

This could prove to be an inspired move for the 23-year-old and DSC will be watching his progress with interest.
