At the point of the 23-hour mark, a full course yellow was thrown as Fred Makowiecki outbraked himself into the Ford Chicane, ploughing across the grass and tearing the rear diffuser and bodywork from the #91 factory GTE Pro Porsche 911 RSR-19.
The French pilot had been pressing on in fourth place, the #91 car having shown a little less outright pace than its team mate throughout, and reported having no brakes at the left-hand entry point.
The car was summoned to the pits by race control regardless where it spent over 5 minutes. A new rear end installed fairly quickly, a set of the #92 Porsche’s tyres had been readied for the car, which if fitted would have meant instant disqualification.
Makowiecki thus lost time but not track position, though any slim chance of improvement appears to have dissipated.
