The title win for Team WRT sees a number of ‘firsts’ the first overall ELMS title for a Belgian Team, and for any debuting LMP2 team, the first overall drivers titles for both a Polish driver (Robert Kubica) and a Chinese driver (Yifei Ye).
Yifei Ye also becomes the first driver to take Asian and European Le Mans titles in a single season and the first Asian driver to take the ELMS title.
Penalties For Two LMP2 Drivers
On-track incidents for Racing Team Turkey’s Salih Yoluc and Algarve Pro Racing’s Diego Mancheca saw both drivers sanctioned by the Race Stewards.
Yoluc was penalised with a drive through penalty and three penalty points on his licence after a double contact with Roman Rusinov’s #26 G-Drive Aurus 01 at Turn 1 at the start of the race. Both would retire as a result of the damage caused.
Menchaca will get a drop of three grid positions should he be entered for the ELMS finale at Portimao and receives 2 penalty points on his licence too after an incident at Les Combes which saw him hit Michael Benham’s #15 RLR MSport Ligier in the rear before restarting and then crossing the track slowly where he was hit by Duncan Cameron in his #55 Spirit of Race Ferrari, all three cars out of the race as a result.
