The Intelligent Money British GT Championship’s provisional results from rounds seven and eight at Oulton Park, and the subsequent points standing, have been amended following a breach of protocol involving the Team Abba Racing Mercedes AMG in “an ongoing technical matter”.
A post-event assessment of the gearbox in Team Abba Racing’s Mercedes-AMG could not be conducted on the agreed date after seals inserted by British GT scrutineers were removed by the team during its subsequent GT Cup outing at Donington Park.
Team Abba Racing notified championship organisers and the BRSCC that damage sustained during the GT Cup meeting left it with no choice but to open the gearbox. This contravenes Motorsport UK General Regulation C3.2 as well as the specific Sealing Report, which was signed by a Team Abba Racing representative at Oulton Park on September 11.
British GT and the BRSCC have then disqualified the car from Oulton Park’s results with the points totals redistributed accordingly. Team Abba Racing has seven days from September 23 to appeal the decision to Motorsport UK.
The amended results and redistribution of points has also altered the GT3 Drivers’ Championship battle where the same five crews remain in title contention.
However, Leo Machitski and Dennis Lind’s advantage over Ian Loggie and Yelmer Buurman (RAM Racing) has increased from 13.5 points to 18.5, while Michael Igoe and Phil Keen (WPI Motorsport) are now two points further behind. Adam Balon and Sandy Mitchell lie 26.5 points adrift of their Barwell Motorsport team-mates, and Andrew Howard (Beechdean AMR) is 33.5 points off the lead.
37.5 points can still be won at British GT’s Donington Park season finale on October 16-17.
