DSC readers who frequent the ELMS and WEC paddocks may not have heard the sad news from France of the accidental death of William Turquetil last month, who for many years was a much liked and respected member of the ACO Technical Team.
Those who knew him will no doubt remember William as a quintessentially French gentleman.
Often, he was the first person you saw on the way into scrutineering, and always offered a cheerful greeting.
I, and I am sure many others, will miss him for the way he went about his job. Professional, but always helpful and with good humour.
Our sport relies on people such as William who contribute much, without always being recognised. I am grateful to have known him and for what he did to support our sport. It was always a pleasure to meet him in the paddock and swap stories, either in his poor English or my worse French. That always made for laughs, even if the subject wasn’t funny.
In recent years he had overcome cancer, which makes his passing the more tragic. His family has not released details, other than to say it was accidental. Repose en paix, mon ami.
