Here’s an interesting possibility – in the wake of the latest updates posted in the lead up to the 2022 FIA WEC season, a Reddit contributor, reading that the 2022 ByKolles Hypercar programme would likely race in the FIA WEC under a different name, went hunting for any potential clues on the German trademark register.
And he found one! PMC Gmbh, the apparent current operating company for ByKolles has registered Vanwall, the name of the very first Formula One manufacturer’s Championship winner since 1958, for a range of commercial and industrial purposes – including vehicles!
Could that be a clue that the car might adopt the very British brand?
DSC has reached out to the team for comment but with no response at present.
The last time there was a publicly acknowledged revival of the Vanwall name came with the announcement late last year that UK-based group Vanwall Group, planned to build six new continuation cars to celebrate Vanwall’s six Formula One wins in 1958, priced at £1.65 million ex VAT.
The Vanwall 1958 Ltd company said at that point that they had “already commenced investigations to understand how the historic Vanwall brand DNA could translate into a vehicle for the 2020s, with studies ongoing into future road and race car programmes.”
Might we be about to see a battle for who really owns the rights to build a car behind a badge that hasn’t seen contemporary race action for over 60 years?
