Porsche Shakedown Fires Starting Gun On LMDH Era

Fred Mako at the wheel

The first shakedown run of the Multimatic-chassised Porsche LMDh has been undertaken at Porsche’s Weissach test track, the delayed first run offering the world the first opportunity to see this, or indeed any LMDh car.

Frederic Makowiecki drove the car on the first run with the car is understood not yet to be equipped with the LMDh spec’ hybrid system. The test itself was delayed from before Christmas, a delay which is likely to have knock-on effects on other key early dates in the testing process, and with Audi’s programme which depends for homologation on progress for the Porsche.

The test offered too the first opportunity for a public view of the front end of the car, part disguised images were shown on screen at Porsche’s late December ‘Night of Champions but that aspect of the car was not shown in a set of carefully selected and cropped ‘teaser’ images.

Head of Porsche Motorsport Thomas Laudenbach: “We are very proud of this important step in the development process of our new WEC/IMSA contender for 2023. Thanks to everybody involved in Weissach and at Team Penske.”

Frederic Makowiecki: “To be honest, it was a very positive roll-out. We could do some laps and discovered that the car is working as expected.”

“Now we have a good starting point to go forward.”
