Motopark, successful in the Euroformula Open, is entering a Mercedes AMG in the Am class for the Red Bull Ring round of the International GT Open.
Motopark’s team principal Timo Rumpfkeil will be at the wheel, shared with Heiko Neumann. The pair are regular contenders, under the NRT banner, in the GTC Race series in Germany.
Timo Rumpfkeil explains: “This year I am racing with my friend Heiko in the GTC Race. After not racing competitively for almost ten years it was obviously an easy decision for me when Heiko asked me at the beginning of the year if I would race with him. Heiko and I are gentlemen drivers, who race for pure pleasure but with a competitive spirit and trying to do things well at our level. In my case, I am too old and too busy for having any other ambitions or resume my driver career. Heiko started doing track days only about 10 years ago and started racing competitively in 2018.
“He developed extremely well, we enjoy very much our 2022 season in the GTC Race and wanted to have a try at an upper level and in an international series. The GT Open is a perfect match, also given that I am already at the events because of my duties in the Euroformula. The Red Bull Ring is a track we know and where we hope to do well. We are looking forward to the Red Bull Ring event and we hope this is leading to more outings in the GT Open in the near future.”
AKM Return With Another AMG
AKM Motorsport will also make its first appearance of the year with a Mercedes AMG. The San Marino-based squad of Marco Antonelli is a regular GT Open contender.
The car will be in the hands of Florian Scholze, in his third appearance (with three different teams) this season, and AKM boss Marco Antonelli himself, who always likes to be at the wheel whenever the possibility arises. The pair should also be racing at Monza and Barcelona.
