The Super Taikyu Organisation (STO) will air live, flag-to-flag, English-language coverage of Eneos Super Taikyu Series powered by Hankook races beginning this coming Sunday, 27 November with the 2022 season finale at Suzuka Circuit.
STO are partnering with Motorsport Japan, a brand new channel on the popular live video streaming service Twitch, to produce English-language broadcasts of their races – in addition to the live, Japanese-language broadcasts which have been aired on the official Super Taikyu YouTube channel since 2017.
Founded in 2022, Motorsport Japan is established with the goal of bringing English-language coverage of Japanese racing to the world, all available in one place. The driving force behind the creation of Motorsport Japan is professional racing driver Jake Parsons. Originally from Australia, Parsons has been racing in Japan full-time, across Super Taikyu, SUPER GT, and All-Japan Formula Three (now Super Formula Lights).
The broadcast team assembled by Parsons and producer Pim “4AMLaundry” will be led by Christian of the Twitch channel “JPMotorsportChris”, an avid motoring and motorsport fan, joined by racing drivers with strong ties to the Japanese motorsports community. Japanese-American grassroots racer/content creator Hana “Hanubuu” Burton, who recently made her circuit racing debut in Japan’s Toyota Yaris Cup; and Jann Mardenborough, the 2011 Nissan GT Academy graduate whose storied journey from video gamer to a professional racing driver has included five seasons competing full-time in Japan across SUPER GT, Super Formula, and All-Japan F3.
American journalist RJ O’Connell, who has covered Super Taikyu in-depth as a contributing writer to Dailysportscar, will join the commentary team this weekend in place of Mardenborough.
Founded in 1991, the Super Taikyu (S-Tai) Series is Japan’s foremost pro-am endurance racing championship, where professional and amateur racing teams and drivers compete for honours in a wide range of vehicle classes – from the ubiquitous GT3 and GT4 sports car categories and TCR touring car platforms, to multiple classes of Japanese domestic market (JDM) production vehicles, and beginning from 2021, manufacturer-developed concept vehicles aimed at showcasing innovative motoring technologies. This season, the STO welcomed Japanese energy company Eneos as the series’ new title sponsor.
This weekend’s five-hour race at Suzuka is the seventh and final round of the 2022 season, which began at the same legendary figure-eight circuit in March. Races are staged across Japan’s six largest national racing circuits, including the series’ premier event, the Fuji Super TEC 24 Hours at Fuji Speedway – which is the only 24-hour endurance sports car race held in Japan.
