Barwell completes Spa 24 line-up
Barwell Motorsport has announced that it has finalised its driver line-up for this year’s 24 Hours of Spa. Joining full-season drivers Rob Collard and Dennis Lind in our Pro-Am class Lamborghini Huracan GT3 EVO2 will be Bashar Mardini and Patrick Kujala.
Mardini will replace Adam Balon, who is unavailable for Spa, as the second Bronze-graded driver in the car whilst Kujala will be the extra Pro driver allowed in the line-up for the 24 Hours only. Bashar is new to Barwell but has extensive international sportscar racing experience, having been a Pro-Am winner in multiple European Porsche Carrera Cup series over the past five seasons as well as sampling GT3 and LMP3 machinery in the Asian Le Mans Series.
Kujala on the other hand has been a huge part of Barwell’s success stories in GT World Challenge, having claimed an Am class win with it at the Spa 24 Hours before as well as the 2020 Silver Cup Endurance Championship title.
“We are delighted to welcome Bashar to the Barwell/Lambo family along with Patrick,” said Mark Lemmer, Barwell Motorsport’s team principal. “Kujala is a magician at Spa in a Barwell Lamborghini GT3, and with Bashar’s speed and experience we now have four drivers that will almost certainly be the crew to beat in the Pro-Am class at the 24 Hours of Spa.”
GT2 field set for Red Bull Ring
The field is set for the GT2 European Series’ return to the Red Bull Ring this weekend.
The second round of the season follows the opening encounter held at Monza, Italy, four weeks ago. There the Audi teams of LP Racing’s Henry Hassid and Anthony Beltoise, and PK Carsport’s Peter Guelinckx and Stienes Longin, took a Pro-Am race win apiece. KTM, meanwhile, led the way in the Am category, with series newcomers Jan Krabec and the RTR Projects team clinching both class wins to top the title table.
Joining the grid for the trip to Austria is reigning Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe champion, Akkodis ASP Team, with the new Mercedes-AMG GT2. The #61 entry driven by Mauro and Benjamin Ricci will contest the remaining five rounds of the season, joining the regular field.
There is no published entry list yet for this weekend. However, 13 cars were present in Monza and if all of them travel to the Red Bull Ring, there will be five GT2 manufacturers represented (Audi, Porsche, Lamborghini, KTM and Mercedes) with the addition of the Akkodis AMG GT2.
Redline adds R8 to the British GT field for Donington
Reigning Silver-Am champion Redline Racing returns to the British GT this weekend with an Audi shared by GT Cup regulars Sacha Kakad and Hugo Cook.
The latter is one of six Silver-Am entries, five of which are eligible to score class points.
This weekend’s race at Donington Park has attracted a huge 36-car entry, which includes a field of 20 GT3 cars thanks to the addition of Redline’s Audi and the new Century BMW M4.
N24 montage
The ADAC has released a well-packed, short highlights montage from last weekend’s historic Nürburgring 24 Hours, which was won by local team Frikadelli Racing, featuring plenty of moments shot from creative angles.
It’s well worth a watch.
