This week, MDK Motorsports and High Class Racing announced a new partnership for the 2024 racing season. Under this partnership, the team will compete under the MDK Motorsports brand in the United States, and the MDK/High Class Racing banner in Europe.
Already, the MDK/High Class partnership has announced two full-season programmes centred around 17-year-old American driver Seth Lucas, who raced full-time in Fanatec GT World Challenge America last season alongside a part-time slate of IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship events in the LMP3 class.
With backing from Motul Lubricants’ USA division, Lucas will take the step up to full-season IMSA competition in the LMP2 class with MDK Motorsports, driving alongside Bronze-graded Dennis Andersen in the #20 Oreca 07, beginning at the Rolex 24 Hours at Daytona on 27-28 January.
In addition, Lucas will share the #20 Ligier JS P320 with High Class Racing owner/driver Anders Fjordbach for the 2023-24 Asian Le Mans Series, beginning on 2/3 December at Petronas Sepang International Circuit.
“It’s exciting to be back in the high-speed world of the Prototype class,” said Lucas. “Racing for MDK Motorsports is an exciting venture for me and one that I’m glad to continue being a part of for the upcoming 2024 season.”
The partnership between MDK and High Class was forged when MDK Motorsports owner/driver Mark Kvamme first raced alongside Fjordbach in the 2023 24 Hours of Le Mans. From that first encounter, they soon laid out a plan to “create a unified team that enables drivers from the US and Europe to compete in any class within their region of choice.”
“This partnership is a monumental moment for both MDK and High Class. Our combined knowledge and resources will give us a significant advantage on and off track,” said Kvamme. “Together, we will offer a premium racing experience as well as world-class support on a global platform.”
“Mark and I have a longstanding camaraderie, and this venture is a testament to our shared commitment to the world of motorsports,” added Fjordbach. “I have no doubt that our work together will invigorate the racing universe, by extending a welcoming hand to drivers from various corners of the globe. This collaboration is set to leave an indelible mark.”
MDK Motorsports will compete across multiple classes of the IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship next season, having previously been confirmed as a full-season entrant in the GTD category with the newest-generation Porsche 911 GT3 R.
The Ohio-based team will also continue its existing one-make racing programmes in Porsche Carrera Cup North America and Porsche Sprint Challenge North America, and will be one of the first entrants in the new-for-2024 Ford Mustang Challenge.
