Rojas Announces Racing Retirement

The 42-year-old Mexican hangs up his helmet after a highly successful 31-year run in the sport

Mexican Memo Rojas has called time on his driving career in international motorsport at 42 years old. The three-time Rolex 24 Hours winner and four-time Rolex Sports Car Series champion made the news public on his Instagram page last night with a video (below).

While his driving career is now over, Rojas has teased that he will remain in motorsport, though in different roles.

“Today is a very special day!” He wrote. “One of the most important stages of my life in international motorsports comes to an end. This is not goodbye, it’s I’ll see you later…

“I will continue to be involved in this sport that I love in different ways and new projects. Thank you very much, everyone!”

Rojas said his decision to stop wasn’t easy.

“If you are wondering why I have decided to stop, the answer is very simple,” he explained in his retirement video. “Today I feel that I have reached one of the most important goals in my life and it is time to put an end to my time as a professional race car driver.

“It is time to make way for new generations,” he said later. “It is time to give back to motorsport a little bit of what it gave me, and above all it is time to focus on other parts of my life that have been on pause because the energy, commitment and sacrifices needed to compete at the highest level are enormous.”

In addition to his successes in Grand-Am at the Rolex 24, Rojas also has a Sebring 12 Hours win from 2014 and two European Le Mans Series LMP2 titles under his belt from 2017 and 2019 with G-Drive Racing and IDEC Sport respectively.

At Le Mans, he has nine starts to his name, with a best finish of sixth in class on debut back in 2016 with Greaves Motorsport. He is also fresh from spending the 2023 FIA WEC season with Alpine in the final year for LMP2 as a full-time class in the globe-trotting championship.
