The 2024 Rolex 24 Hours is winding down. After Hour 20 produced a slate of duels, it’s been quiet.
During the 22nd hour, the headlines were the retirement of the #65 Ford Mustang GT3 from fifth in GTD Pro, adding to the laundry list of issues for the brand new GT3 cars in the field. This race has not been kind to Ford, Corvette or Aston Martin, at all.
The #10 WTRAndretti Acura was also parked, the team coming to the conclusion that it is unable to make any further progress from its current spot in 42nd overall.
Up front, Felipe Nasr’s ironman run continued. The Brazilian holds a comfortable 6.6-second lead over the chasing Whelen Cadillac being driven by Tom Blomqvist. The #40 WTRAndretti Acura demains third, slowly losing touch with the leading pair, the margin over 30 seconds.
In LMP2, Era Motorsports appears to have control, Connor Zilisch holding off the charge from Colin Braun in the #04 Crowdstrike ORECA, and the #52 Inter Europol PR1 ORECA of super-sub Pietro Fittipaldi.
In the GTD Pro ranks Risi Competizione’s metronomic run powers on, Alessandro Pier Guidi running 16 seconds up the road from the Paul Miller BMW. The #77 AO Racing Porsche remains third.
The #57 Winward Racing Mercedes is on top in GTD, with the Vasser Sullivan Lexus 26 seconds back, Philip Ellis leading Aaron Telitz. Third is currently occupied by AF Corse’s #21 Ferrari, its quiet run to the front looking as if it will be rewarded this afternoon.
