Iron Lynx-Proton ELMS LMP2 Driver Crew Set

Ried, Cairoli and Capietto

The driver line-up for Iron Lynx first ELMS LMP2 campaign has been confirmed, with Jonas Ried, Matteo Cairoli and Macéo Capietto set to team up in its #9 ORECA 07 Gibson.

The Iron Lynx LMP2 programme is being run as a joint entry with German ELMS stalwart Proton Competition, alongside the Italian team’s LMGT3 effort in the series with a Lamborghini Hurácan GT3 Evo 2. Notably, Iron Lynx will also be competing in the top class of the FIA WEC as Lamborghini’s Hypercar factory team. Proton will compete in Hypercar too, with a privately-run Porsche 963.

For Ried, this will be his second season competing in a Proton-run ORECA in the ELMS. Lamborghini factory Hypercar driver Cairoli meanwhile, is new to ELMS LMP2 but has five years of experience in the ELMS – racing in the GTE class – to draw from.

Capietto on the other hand, is completely new to sportscar racing. The French up-and-comer has raced in Formula 4 and Formula Regional in his short career to date. In his first season in cars in 2021, he challenged for the French F4 title. Over the last two seasons, he has raced in the highly competitive Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine.

Commenting on the team’s LMP2 driver crew for 2024, Andrea Piccini, Iron Lynx’s team principal and CEO said: “We are very excited to welcome Macéo to the team. He is a very talented driver, and he is the perfect fit for our family. Despite being young, he has already proven himself in the junior single-seater ranks and showed his speed and skills testing with our GT3 during the winter.

“Completing our dynamic line-up is Matteo, who I am personally pleased to see given additional track time in prototypes in 2024 to gain valuable experience and also for the LMDh programme. The two additions along with Jonas is set to form a strong line-up in ELMS this year.”

We have a fantastic and successful relationship with Proton Competition and I am looking forward greatly to continue it into 2024 and to do so with an LMP2 is a very exciting opportunity for all of us.”

The team’s full LMGT3 line-up is expected to be revealed soon. Currently, the only named driver is Hiroshi Hamaguchi.
