IMSA has published the provisional entry list for next week’s Chevrolet Sports Car Classic at the Detroit Renaissance Centre circuit, to take place on 1 June as part of the IndyCar Detroit Grand Prix weekend.
Last year’s Detroit Grand Prix was the first to be held in the Renaissance Centre district since 1991. The IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge series’ GS (GT4) class ran a one-hour, 40-minute race here in 2023, which was won by Winward Racing’s Bryce Ward and Daniel Morad.
This year, the IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship’s GTP and GTD Pro classes will tackle the 2.6-kilometre street circuit, the second and final street race of the season – and the last major prototype race before the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
In GTP, the #7 Porsche Penske Motorsport 963 of Dane Cameron and Felipe Nasr leads the championship by 50 points over the #31 Whelen Engineering Cadillac Racing V-Series.R (Pipo Derani/Jack Aitken). There are no driver changes for any of the ten teams in GTP since Laguna Seca; this includes Bent Viscaal getting a second opportunity to drive the #5 Mustang Sampling Proton Competition Porsche.
GTD Pro will feature 11 cars this weekend, thanks to a pair of one-off entries.
Vasser Sullivan Racing will enter both of its Lexus RC F GT3s as it did at Long Beach. Jack Hawksworth and Ben Barnicoat will remain in the full-season #14 car, while GTD drivers Parker Thompson and Frankie Montecalvo will step up to GTD Pro for this occasion in the renumbered #15 Lexus.
Hawksworth and Barnicoat are 56 points behind the new GTD Pro points leaders, the #77 AO Racing Porsche 911 GT3 R of Laurin Heinrich and Seb Priaulx, who won at Laguna Seca last time out.
Conquest Racing, which normally fields the #34 Ferrari 296 GT3 for Manny Franco and Albert Costa, will also make a one-off entry in GTD Pro. The car has been renumbered #35, and Rolex 24 Hours class winner Daniel Serra will drive alongside Costa.
Alex Riberas has returned to his stead in the #23 Heart of Racing Team Aston Martin Vantage GT3, after missing Laguna Seca due to a clash with the WEC 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps.
