There is some very sad news to pass on today about a relatively recent but truly adored member of the DSC family.
Oscar – aka DSC Dog – came to live with Trudie and I in October 2019 and was immediately adored by all that encountered him.
A joyful, funny, exceptionally gentle soul, his early life had been scarred by ill-treatment from his previous owners, a Brazilian drugs gang!
Despite being ill-treated and neglected in those early life experiences, Oscar brought as much gentleness into our lives as a 35-kilo Siberian Husky ever could.
Through the COVID years and beyond he became a beloved part of our actual family, our first dog in a life that had previously seen a series of (almost equally adorable) felines on board.
Oscar was a regular companion in the DSC office in those years too, oddly enough particularly at lunchtime!
The DSC team loved him too, and he was very, VERY fond of ‘Uncle Dave’ Lord – which may – or may not – have had something to do with the fact that Dave was always up for a trip to the snack cupboard!
Oscar seemed to have a mild digestive problem earlier this week and after taking advice from the vet we were hopeful it was nothing to be concerned about.
That though was blown out of the water today by a devastating diagnosis after tests – advanced prostate and bowel cancer, he was suffering (Huskies are notoriously stoic in the face of pain) and nothing could be done.
Worse still that news came as I arrived in Sao Paolo so I could not be there when the final moments came this morning.
Trudie and I, and our whole family, are absolutely devastated – Oscar leaves more than a 35 kilo hole – he leaves a gaping chasm.
Farewell my beautiful husky – You weren’t just a VERY good boy, you were the absolute best .
