GT4 America’s 2024 season wraps up this weekend at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, with two 60-minute sprint races on Saturday and Sunday.
30 cars are in the field for the double-header weekend where all three GT4 America class championships will be decided: Seven cars in the Silver class, 15 in Pro-Am, and eight in Am.
Only five points separate the top two teams in the GT4 America Silver standings: RS1’s John Capestro-Dubets and Eric Filgueiras, versus Random Vandals Racing’s Kevin Boehm and Kenton Koch. Filgueiras will be aiming for his third consecutive SRO America title in three years, this time alongside ‘JCD’, who missed out on a share of a Drivers’ Championship in GT4 America due to an injury last season.
In addition, Capestro-Dubets and Koch will be pulling ‘double duty’ in both GT4 America and the Indianapolis 8 Hour Race itself, with Race 1 on Saturday morning before the main event, and Race 2 the day after.
2023 Silver champion Zac Anderson and co-driver Colin Garrett still have a mathematical chance at the championship, but their #51 AutoTechnic Racing BMW would need to finish no worse than second in Race 1 to stand any chance at erasing the 39-point deficit to the point leaders, Capestro-Dubets and Filgueiras.
Other changes to note are at JMF Motorsports, which is plugging its IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge line-up of Michai Stephens and Jesse Webb back into GT4 America in the #34 Mercedes-AMG GT4. Stephens and Webb, last year’s Silver class runners-up, had four top-ten finishes in seven Michelin Pilot Challenge starts this year.
Barbadian-Canadian prospect Cayden Goodridge will also make his series debut for VPX Motorsport, sharing the #77 Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 with Danny Dyszelski.
In Am, five teams can win the championship: Random Vandals’ Kris Wilson has a slim three-point lead over Rotek Racing’s Robb Holland and Jaden Lander. Once again, Michael Kanisczak will relieve the injured Paul Sparta in the #98 BMW alongside Wilson.
Nicholas Shanny of Carrus Callas Raceteam trails by 21 points, while the two-time and defending Am champions, Charlie Postins and James Clay, have a 39-point deficit to overcome in their #36 BimmerWorld BMW. KRUGSPEED’s Anthony Geraci is the longest of longshots, trailing by 46 points and needing a perfect weekend to stand any chance.
Orlando Motorsports Services’ #80 McLaren Artura GT4 is back in the series for the first time since Sebring, Kaia Teo and Nick Longhi will once again drive one of two McLarens in the field. Skip Barber Racing’s #16 Aston Martin Vantage GT4 will also have a new line-up of brothers Alex and Michael Garcia, both stepping up from GR Cup North America (and in Alex’s case, running triple-duty in GT4, GR Cup, and TC America!).
The Pro-Am championship could be decided in Race 1. ACI Motorsports’ Curt Swearingin and Kay van Berlo take a 30-point lead into the weekend over Heart of Racing Team’s Gray Newell and Roman de Angelis aboard the 2024 ‘Evo’ Aston Martin.
Of note in Pro-Am, Indy NXT star Myles Rowe will make his sports car racing debut, in a second Rotek Racing Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 shared with the newly-crowned GT America GT4 class champion Isaac Sherman.
Rowe, the 2023 USF Pro 2000 Champion, is the centrepiece driver for Force Indy – a project aimed at helping African-American drivers advance up the American open-wheel racing ladder. Rowe had two top-five finishes in his debut Indy NXT campaign and has already committed to run a second season in the category.
Precision Racing LA’s repaired Toyota GR Supra GT4 Evo is also back in action – and so is Ryan Eversley, paired with his fourth co-driver of the season: Terry Borcheller, the two-time Daytona 24 Hours winner and two-time IMSA series champion.
After debuting at Barber Motorsports Park, the #94 Random Vandals Racing BMW (Sam Craven/Josh Green) and #102 TPC Racing McLaren (Alan Grossberg/Dario Capitanio) will make their second starts to finish out the 2024 season.
