Mahiki Racing’s newest arrivals in the third #84 Lotus Emira GT4 lost out on a chance for victory at the second round of the 2025 British GT championship.
Miller, aged 19, and Neate, aged 18, are the youngest combined age pairing on the grid and have impressed at both Donington Park and Silverstone.
Aiden Neate held the lead during the three-hour race at the Silverstone Grand Prix Circuit, before his Lotus suffered a left-rear suspension toe link failure, resulting in retirement with 1 hour and 20 minutes remaining.
His teammate Josh Miller said post-race: “It was ultimately our race to win, but through the fast section of Turn 2 (Farm Corner), it looks like something broke on the rear of the car, and there’s nothing Aiden could do about it.
“Initially, we’d hoped to have a live snatch and recover the car, turn it (the race) into a bit of damage limitation, but I think the damage is too extensive on the rear of that Lotus.
“… the toe link’s failed on the rear axle, and when that happens, there’s no saving it.
“Our pace is promising for the rest of the year, but ultimately in British GT, it’s all about finishing consistently, so from now on, the rest of the season, it’s got to be flawless from us.”
Mahiki stepped up its programme with the additional Lotus for this season, which has claimed both GT4 class pole positions so far.
Firstly, at Donington, Neate led from pole position before their added pit stop time put them down the running order in the second half of the race, resulting in P6 in the GT4 field.
The pairing continued extending an enormous lead at Silverstone over their trailing GT4 rivals during their stints and two safety car periods.
Mahiki’s #69 Lotus was already in trouble after Steven Lake suddenly stopped in the pit lane before the #69 retired, and so the #84 became the second GT4 class DNF at Silverstone.
Next time out at Oulton Park will showcase the first two sprint rounds of the 2025 calendar.
