The Hypercar pole position scored by Cadillac is their first ever in a 75-year history of competition at Le Mans. In fact, it is the first overall pole position from any General Motors brand.
It’s a first overall Pole position too for Jota and for driver Alex Lynn.
It’s the first by a British driver since Johnny Herbert’s pole for Audi Sport UK Team Veloqx in 2004, and by a British-based team since that pole in 2004 too.
It’s the first Le Mans pole by an American manufacturer since 1967 and Bruce McLaren’s effort in the Ford GT40 Mk IV.
It’s the first ‘double first’ of a first pole from both driver and marque since Manu Collard set pole for Pescarolo in 2005.
Jota became the first team ever to take Le Mans pole positions in both LMP2 and the current top class (that record includes the LMP1 and LMP900 eras) after taking LMP2 pole in 2021.
It’s the first Le Mans pole by a non-turbocharged, normally aspirated engine since the Pescarolo Courage C60 Judd Hybrid of 2005, cars which also scored one – two on the grid.
It completes a remarkable run by Cadillac at the race meeting thus far, A Cadillac Racing entry has been either first or second (or both!) on the time sheet in each of the three free practice sessions, the qualifying practice on Wednesday night, Hyperpole 1 and Hyperpole 2.
