That was a pretty full on 24 Hours.
Firstly huge commiserations to Core Autosports after a truly cruel end to a race they had run very well indeed.
Prototype
That is an astonishing 10th win in the last eleven years plus a further three overall wins for Riley and Scott.
The win for the Ford EcoBoost engine makes it six for the blue oval, overtaking Ferrari as the second most successful engine make in the races history, second only now to Porsche.
It’s six overall wins too for Chip Ganassi Racing in 12 attempts, a record.
Chip Ganassi: “These things take a team. The focus was on Dixon, but it takes a team of great drivers. Again, Mike chose the team. He is the one that pulled this one together.
“My hat is off the Chevrolet for their battle here. They know how to fight for championships as do Wayne Taylor Racing. It was a shame that they had the drive time issue and couldn’t take it to the finish.
“As far as calling that car the star car, don’t do it. I don’t approve of that. It is a team just like any other team that we have.”
Its a second overall win for Scott Dixon, and first time wins for Tony Kanaan, Jamie McMurray and Kyle Larson.
McMurray takes the Daytona 500 and Rolex 24 double joining luminaries including Mario Andretti and AJ Foyt.
Dixon (still!) has an Indy 500 and Rolex 24 Hours wins to his name.
GTLM
Corvette Racing take the best overall GT finish since 2004 (5th overall).
It is Corvette’s first class win with a GT car since they took the overall win in 2001 (though a Vette DP won overall last year).
It is the first 24 Hour race win by the Corvette C7.R
Antonio Garcia grabs a second Rolex 24 win and adds it to an increasingly impressive tally of Le Mans, Sebring and Championship silverware
Jan Magnussen adda a Rolex 24 class win to his gaggle of Le Mans class victories and class wins at Sebring too.
Ryan Briscoe adds a Daytona class win to similar feats at Sebring and PLM.
PC
Its a debut win for the PR1/ Mathieson Motorsport, and for all four drivers in the #52 Oreca.
Tom Kimber Smith adds a Daytona win to his trio of Le Mans class wins, Mike Guasch completes a Daytona/ Sebring double, Andrew Novich and Andrew Palmer take their first major endurance racing titles.
GTD
The Dodge Viper takes its first Daytona class win since the famous overall victory in 2000.
Bill Riley built cars take two wins this year.
Kuno Wittmer adds a Daytona win to his 2014 TUSCC Drivers Championship title in GTLM.
Dominik Farnbacher adds a second class win here, a decade after his first!
A highly emotional Ben Keating joins team-mates Al Carter and Cameron Lawrence in each taking their first major sportscar racing title.
