No Further Action following restart investigation
Yesterday’s result initially featured jeopardy at the chequered flag, with an investigation looming over four key players, the pair of BMW M Hybrid V8s in Hypercar, and the #10 Garage 59 McLaren and #21 Vista AF Corse Ferrari in LMGT3, over their respective behaviour on the final Safety Car restart.
Both incidents were investigated, with both ruled as requiring ‘no further action’.
The only car to pick up a post-race penalty was the #77 Proton Competition Ford, after Silver-ranked Ben Tuck was four minutes short of his minimum drive time. The penalty awarded, docking the car one lap, one minute and 56 seconds, did not impact its finishing position, with it already having been the final classified runner.
Derani: “We should be proud of what we achieved”
Genesis Magma Racing earned its first world championship points in just its second outing, with the #17 GMR-001 of André Lotterer, Mathys Jaubert and Pipo Derani finishing eighth overall
“It was very difficult, because from the moment I got in the car, almost two hours and 40 minutes to go, we were battling an issue with the powertrain,” Derani, who finished the race in the car, told DSC.
“We lost a lot of performance because of it, and we were definitely a bit scared that we would struggle all the way towards the end.
“We were a bit lucky with the yellow that brought us together, but at the end of the day, we were there to capitalise and fight for our first points, so we’re very proud of the team, very proud of the whole group.
“It hasn’t been easy up until here, and it’s not meant to be easy because we are at a very high level championship. So with that said, we should be very proud of what we achieved, but we have our foot on the floor as we know we have a lot of work to do.”
New Attendance Record
This weekend’s official attendance was 101, 606.

This is a record crowd in Europe for a non-Le Mans FIA WEC round, and an improvement on last year’s total of 98,000.
Lentoudis sweeps Legends of Le Mans races
This was the second consecutive FIA WEC round to be supported by Peter Auto’s Legends of Le Mans series.
Both races were won, in very different fashions, by the Peugeot 908 HDi-FAP of Greek racer Kriton Lentoudis, who scored wins on back-to-back weekends after taking the LMP2 Pro/Am victory at the ELMS event at Circuit Paul Ricard the previous week.
Whilst Friday’s Race 1 saw the Peugeot driver relatively unchallenged after seeing off an early charge from the Lola-Judd of Michel Frey, Saturday morning’s encounter was significantly more of a challenge, with Lentoudis needing to catch and pass the similar Peugeot of Shaun Lynn, whose car did not feature on Friday following a technical issue after the formation lap.
LMP2 also saw a double winner, with François Perrodo in his Porsche RS Spyder taking Friday’s victory after a pit lane start. The Horag-livered #83 car moved up through the field, finally taking a comfortable win.
On Saturday, Perrodo moved up from a midfield start to tussle with the invitational-entered OAK Pescarolo of Silver-ranked Jean-Baptiate Lahaye, and scored a class win ahead even of a pair of delayed LMP1 cars.
Such was Perrodo’s pace in the 2008 Porsche, that his LMP2 class win was good enough for overall podium finishes in both races.
He was joined on Friday’s LMP2 podium by Andy Cummings in his ex-KCMG Morgan, and Evgeny Kireev in the ex-G-Drive Racing ORECA 05. Kireev would repeat his third place in class on Saturday, but this time would cede second place to Alexandre Leroy in his IDEC Sport-entered Ligier JS P2.
The two-car GTE field once again saw a pair of wins for the Aston Martin AMR Vantage of Franz Wunderlich, with Professor Wolfgang Henseler putting up a spirited pair of drives in his 2011 Lotus Evora GTE.
Legends of Le Mans will race next during the Le Mans Classic in July.
Carrera Cup Galore!
Three of the last four LMEM-organised events have featured a different Porsche Carrera Cup championship on the support bill.
Carrera Cup France joined the ELMS at Barcelona, Germany, at the Imola WEC round, and Benelux this weekend at Spa.
Le Mans will see a fourth in the sequence, with Carrera Cup Brazil a somewhat unusual inclusion on the support bill.
