AMG Confirms Auer, Engel & Fong For Macau Return

Mercedes-AMG will return to the FIA GT World Cup in Macau this November with three GT3 entries from Craft-Bamboo Racing and Tigani Motorsport.

Mercedes-AMG Performance Drivers Lucas Auer and Maro Engel will be joined by Hong Kong-based Adderly Fong, with the manufacturer targeting further success at an event where it has established a dominant record.

Mercedes-AMG has won nine of the 18 GT3 races held in Macau and has claimed five manufacturers titles, making it the most successful marque in the history of the event. It now returns after sitting out the 2025 edition due to concerns regarding the introduction of mandatory torque sensors.

Auer will drive for Tigani Motorsport and will make his GT3 debut on the Guia Circuit, although the Austrian has considerable Macau experience from his Formula 3 days.

The 31-year-old raced in Macau between 2012 and 2014, finishing second in his most recent appearance in 2014.

“I’m absolutely delighted to be returning to Macau. It is simply an incredible event and something very special for every driver. That makes me even more excited about my first GT3 outing on the Guia Circuit in November. I’ll be making intensive use of the time between now and then to prepare as best as possible, with simulator sessions as well as extensive video and data analysis, said Auer.

Engel, meanwhile, will return with Craft-Bamboo Racing for his 11th Macau appearance. The German is one of the most successful GT3 drivers in the history of the event, having recorded four victories from 10 previous appearances.

Engel won the Macau GT Cup in 2014 and 2022 before taking FIA GT World Cup victories in 2015 and 2024. His four GT wins make him the joint record holder alongside Edoardo Mortara, while he has also added three further podium finishes — second in 2018 and third in both 2016 and 2017.

“I’m really looking forward to returning to this fantastic event in Macau after a year away. I’ve enjoyed some great successes there in the past together with Mercedes-AMG Motorsport. The circuit demands everything from you as a driver and you have to be incredibly precise – that’s the kind of challenge I love, because it’s a place where you can really make the difference as a driver,” Engel commented.

“As always, qualifying will be hugely important for a successful weekend: everyone gives it everything and pushes to the absolute limit, because your starting position is crucial in Macau. At the same time, you always need a little bit of luck on your side. There’s still some time to go, but I’m already looking forward to the unique atmosphere and the fantastic support from the fans.“

Fong will also race for Craft-Bamboo Racing, bringing extensive experience of the 6.120-kilometre street circuit to the Mercedes-AMG line-up.

The Hong Kong driver first competed in Formula 3 at Macau in 2010 before making his GT3 debut there in 2014. He most recently contested the event in 2025 with an Audi R8 LMS GT3, finishing 13th.

Stefan Wendl, the head of customer racing at Mercedes-AMG Motorsport said: “We are delighted to be back on the grid for the prestigious FIA GT World Cup in Macau with a very strong line-up. My thanks go to our Customer Racing Teams Craft-Bamboo Racing and Tigani Motorsport for running our entries.

“Macau is both a highlight and a challenge. Torque sensors have been mandatory in the FIA GT World Cup since last year. As we do not yet have any experience with them on the Guia Circuit, we are placing particular emphasis on preparation and simulation work.

“Mercedes-AMG Motorsport has a successful history in Macau, and of course we want to build on that.”

The 2026 FIA GT World Cup will take place from November 19-22.
