GTWC Europe Portimão: Thursday Paddock Notes

Autodromo-Internacional-do-Algarve

Jensen joins Steller

Former Michelin Le Mans Cup GT3 Drivers’ Champion Kasper Jensen will race the #24 Steller Motorsport Corvette this weekend, forming an all-Danish trio alongside Dennis Lind and Mikkel Mac.

Jensen, who has focused on racing on the Danish national scene in recent years and won titles in TCR Denmark and Super GT Denmark, is making his first GT3 start in over three years.

Nesov makes return with Attempto

Former Pure Rxcing driver Alexey Nesov is set to make his first Endurance Cup start since the 24 Hours of Spa, with the 23-year-old returning to Tresor Attempto Racing, with whom he competed in 2024 and 2025.

Nesov has replaced Gerhard Tweraser aboard the Bronze Cup-entered #88 Audi, which also features Carrie Schreiner and Daniele Di Amato.

JMW confirms Gold Cup trio

JMW Motorsport’s #60 Ferrari will compete in the Gold Cup class this weekend, having tweaked its driver line-up from the Nürburgring, where it ran in Pro.

Konsta Lappalainen has remained with the British squad, with Casper Stevenson and Giacomo Altoè joining him.

Walkenhorst refreshes line-up

Walkenhorst Motorsport has updated the driver line-up for its #35 Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT3 Evo, with Mark Kastelic and Lucas Légeret joining Mateo Villagomez in the Silver Cup entry.

The pair have replaced Ethan Ischer and Gaspard Simon, the latter of whom had stated at the previous round at Barcelona earlier that he was not racing this weekend.

Kylmenko completes Sainteloc trio

The ‘TBA’ slot in the #25 Sainteloc Racing Audi’s driver line-up has been filled by Ivan Klymenko. The Ukrainian raced with the team in the opening three rounds of the season, but missed the Nürburgring.

Kylmenko will once again share the Silver Cup entry with Ezequiel Perez Companc and Etienne Cheli.

High Class Ligier ready for debut

High Class Racing’s garage, as well as its #269 Porsche 911 GT3 R (992.2), currently features its brand-new #77 Ligier JS2 RS. The French marque is set to make its GT2 European Series debut this weekend.

The Danish outfit is one of several squads which has remained at Portimão following last weekend’s European Le Mans Series season finale, with its set-up still including multiple pieces from its ELMS effort, such as bodywork and its fuel rig.

Cars from other championships

A walk through the paddock as competitors arrived for this weekend’s action offered a rare insight as to how teams utilise chassis across multiple championships.

TGI Team by GRT’s #63 Lamborghini Temerario GT3 rolled off the truck as Maximilian Paul’s DTM contender, whilst several other cars were present bearing Italian GT Championship and ADAC GT Masters markings.

WRT goes Gold

Team WRT’s #30 BMW M4 GT3 Evo has adopted a new livery for this weekend, to celebrate the car’s clean sweep of Silver Cup titles this season.

The Ignacio Montenegro, Matisse Lismont and Amaury Cordeel-driven machine now features gold highlights.

Rinaldi changes livery

Rinaldi Racing appears set to run in blue as opposed to its regular green this weekend, with the car participating in the pre-event test in the colours of the Italian GT it arrived in.

Razoon – more than racing based in the paddock

This weekend’s 61-car entry has filled the garages at the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve to a premium, with the majority of runners sharing their space with at least one other car.

Razoon – more than racing, in fact, does not have a garage at all, with their two-car Porsche 911 GT3 R (992.2) effort set to be based from an awning in the paddock.

i4Race returns with new Maserati

Maserati customer team i4Race is returning to the GT2 European Series field for the first time since Antoine Potty’s significant accident at Misano back in July.

The team was stickering-up its new chassis this morning, ahead of the beginning of GT2 track action this evening.
