The FIA has issued a call for entrues for the season-ending FIA GT World Cup on 19-22 November in Macau.
The event is intended to ‘create a showcase for GT manufacturers’. Each manufacturer involved may enter a maximum of three FIA GT3-spec cars, with a field available of 28 cars. The application window for manufacturers is open until 6 September. There will also be places reserved for up to seven locally selected entries.
The official entry list of selected manufacturers and the amount of cars per manufacturer will be confirmed by the FIA, upon proposal of the GT World Cup Committee, by 10 September.
Each selected manufacturer will be invited to register its chosen team(s) to represent it in the event (one team may provide one to three cars) and the drivers for those cars by 25 September.
The official entry list of selected teams and drivers will be confirmed by the FIA, upon proposal of the GT World Cup Committee, before 1 October.
FIA GT Commission President, Christian Schacht believes the FIA GT World Cup has the potential to be a destination event’ for GT drivers and manufacturers.
“Macau, in many ways, is the perfect location to represent this style of car,” he said. “The prestigious and evocative marques involved in GT racing are very familiar to the streets of Macau. The individual format for drivers at such a high level ensures that the event is going to be really attractive to many top-level drivers, many of whom have fond memories of Macau from their F3 days. The thought of the world’s best GT drivers flat out in a sprint format around Macau is definitely an appealing one.”
Entrants must contest a series recognised by the FIA and based on the FIA GT3 technical regulations in order to be eligible for qualification to the GT World Cup.
The 2015 event format for the inaugural FIA GT World Cup will be scheduled as follows:
– Thursday (Free Practice 1)
– Friday (Free Practice 2 & Qualifying Session)
– Saturday (Qualifying Race)
– Sunday (Main Race)
The Balance of Performance will be that determined by the FIA for 2015 FIA GT3 Specification, adapted for the Macau track, and can be adjusted by the FIA until the start of the Qualifying Race.
SRO Motorsports Group will provide support to the Automobile General Association Macao-China (AAMC) for operational and logistics work required for the staging of the FIA GT World Cup.
