Dunlop will be supplying tyres in LMP1 for the first time since 2012, announcing a partnership with Rebellion Racing for its 2016 WEC campaign, supplying its pair of R-One AERs for the full-season.
The specification of the tyres that Rebellion will be using are yet to be decided, as a development and testing programme has been planned in the run up to the new season, specifically to help choose the right tyres for the cars.
“We are delighted to welcome Dunlop as tyre partner of Rebellion Racing and are excited about working alongside a company with such a deep motorsport background and rich history at Le Mans,” said team manager Bart Hayden. “We look forward to establishing a strong and long term relationship with Dunlop.
“We saw in recent seasons that Dunlop have provided very competitive tyres to the LMP2 cars and we hope that this partnership will further improve the competitiveness of the Rebellion R-One LMP1 cars.”
The last time Dunlop tyres made an appearance in the LMP1 class of the FIA WEC was with Oak Racing, whose #15 Oak Pescarolo 01 appeared in five of the eight rounds of the series’ inaugural season. It was also the last season that anyone other than Michelin supplied tyres in the headline prototype class.
