MSA BEC: Donington, Quick Report

Spain vs Aston Thriller Decided By Penalty.

In a three-hour race blighted by showers and a continually wet and greasy track, Javier Morcillo and Manuel Cintrano in the Neil Garner-run Mosler took the win, after the hurriedly-purchased Aston Martin Vantage of Paul Bailey and Andy Schulz traded the lead between pit stops, but suffered a drive-through penalty after a yellow-flag infringement. Schulz’s pursuit of the Mosler in the closing hour was further compromised by a last-gasp fuel stop, leaving a relieved Morcillo – himself marginal on fuel – to cruise the final laps.

Ian Loggie, in the Team Parker-run Porsche 997, had a phenomenal opening stint, leaving Chris Jones to take a comfortable Class 2 win. The works GT4 Chevron of Anthony Reid and Ray Grimes headed Class 3 home after a terrific early-race midfield battle with the Webb brothers’ BMW GTR and the sensational Flick Haigh, who was mightily impressive in the Fauldsport Ginetta G55.

By dint of posting fastest laps, the Porsche and Chevron head the overall points table.
