The weather so far at Le Mans has been an astonishing mix of blistering heat, torrential rain and a massive thunder and hail storm.
The forecast is for rather mixed conditions too for the remainder of the week though the autograph session this afternoon was blessed with the first sunshine of the day.
No major dramas to report from scrutineering though the Strakka HPD did need a second examination today after failing tech with a slightly out of position floor section.
There was the now traditional trail of drivers arriving on Monday to sign on after competing over the weekend with Ryan Dalziel, Enzo Potolicchio, Brendan Hartley, Wolf Henzler, Kazuki Nakajima, James Rossiter and Pat Long amongst the latecomers.
Nakajima was the victim of a ‘Two worlds collide’ moment as he was collared by a French TV crew after clearing the formalities and asked for an interview – Courteously agreeing the Toyota factory driver and ex F1 man was then asked the following:
“Do you watch Grays Anatomy?” (answer – “No I have no idea what that is I’m afraid”)
“So what do you think of Patrick Dempsey?” (answer – “I’m very sorry I don’t know who that is.”)
“He’s a very famous American actor who is in the race next weekend.” (answer – “Ah, good I’ll keep an eye out for him out there.”)

Good as it is to have the stardust of a celebrity entrant, and with absolutely no disrespect to Patrick himself who is as passionate about his sport as anyone in the field, that has to be the most obvious example (of several) where this particular story has been allowed to dominate the PR for the greatest race in the world. Pretty sorry stuff.
